I just have to say I love this idea of being transparent! Thank you all so much for your openness and honesty. I feel like half my life was spent trying to be someone I wasn’t. What I found out as an adult was, God likes me. He knows I’m a mess but He still likes me! And then do you know what I found out? Other people like me better when I’m being just me. No pretenses, no lies, just me. Take it or leave it. Then as I started to be myself I found out something very amazing, more people would ask me about God and how to get to know him. When your transparent but you still carry the love of Christ, it makes people stop and go Huh? It’s very cool!
Keep it up!

Good post. I don’t think you’re hypocrites. I appreciate the transparency all of you show. It takes guts. I know some people who think that to be truthful and sincere they have to say everything that comes into their heads or everything they know–no matter how destructive or socially taboo it is. I think that’s a big mistake. I like your distinction between having tact and being fake or hypocritical. We are to “speak the truth in love” and that means never compromise truth, speak it for the right reasons, and with tact.
Some time ago I realized you can’t ever get to know every facet of a person in one interaction or even a few interactions. It takes time for people to reveal themselves to others–even when they’re not hiding anything. That’s just the way “getting to know someone” works. And certain people and situation pull different sides of one’s personality out. One result of that is not feeling pressure to reveal everything about myself so I won’t be fake or a hypocrite. You may not see all of me (because you can’t), but I can at least make sure that the part you do see is the real me.
Dave, you mentioned you work with kids. Has anyone ever been uncomfortable with you being with kids so much since you’re a recovering porn addict? Sometimes I get the feeling that merely having “kids” and “porn” in the same sentence is like saying “bomb” on a plane–people freak out and nothing else matters. Even if you say “It’s not like I have a bomb.”

When we have found salvation in Christ, we have died to ourselves. This podcast makes me think of this scripture…2 Cor 5:17 So if any man is in Christ, he is in a new world: the old things have come to an end; they have truly become new.
Which brings me to a new point of view for you “transparent” people, this is no longer your life it is God’s. We are to be examples, disciples, and walking testimonies! SoooOOOoo…what I am trying to say is…these topics (testimonies) “put out” there, globally, on podcasts, are not ours to withold from anyone. The trials we went through, the fleshly ways we lived, the sins that we have done, the thoughts we have had and the foolish words we have said, were saved by the blood of Christ. He has transformed us and made us new. Given us blessings and miracles. We HAVE to share this with everyone. It is His blessings, miracles and testimonies to share.
I am living transparent. I hope with all my transparency, they see through me and see Christ’s light shining bright in there. I CANNOT wait to share His testimony with the world!!
