Susan! I just want to thank you for talking about our emotionl, physical and spiritual ride through a traumatic “trial” in your life and your family’s life. I related to you on some levels, not that any of my children were diagnosed with an illness…but I am a mother that went through a trial of her own, with her four children.

Quck cap…I was a single mom, met my (now) husband who had two boys, those two boys were kidnapped and we embarked on a custody adventure. The boys mother died during the process of getting them back, and her parents took over custody (saying there was a neglectful father), two and a half years of fighting custody we bring the boys home and I now have a newborn. Family of six…and a way we go!!

We were financially broke, we lived in a one and half bedroom, we had jobs and no daycare, on and on the story went.

Humbling ourselves for the first time to accepting help from our friends, family and community. Trying to come to terms with the fact that help does NOT mean you are not capable of being a mother. Learning to trust God, be obedient (even in trial) and CONTENTMENT amidst the trial. Hanging on my wall (I look at everyday), I wrote:

NEVER complain, want to be somewhere else, compare your life to others, or dwell on what could/should be. NEVER FORGET God has it all, to give thanks and REJOICE! God will take care of us in ALL things.

We have been a family of six for 3 years now. We still struggle emotionally as a blended family, but I am learning DAILY how to be content, humble, obedient and trusting in all that God has in store for this family. He brings me strength. As a mother, and a woman, our daily lives are filled with nurturing, keeping things safe and healthy. Even when our children are in school, at home, in Church…anywhere!..we think of them. We make meals, we drive kids here and there, we tuck them in, we cry for them, we laugh with them, etc. All the daily emotional, physical and social aspects of being a mother is to be structured, organized and “controlling” of our family environment. THEN, we have God saying “NO, rest…let ME have it!!” Such a hard HARD HARD thing for a mother to do. I have learned to LISTEN to God, LEAN on God and LET Him have it!!

Much love goes out to you and things for showing your strength!
